If you're reading this you probably know who I am. If not Hi I'm Ryan, I'm a 30 year old single guy studying to get his Masters in Divinity (that's a pastor degree for those of you not in the know) without a girlfriend and too much time on his hands who believes you all might want to hear my opinions. What's that you don't want to hear my opinions? Too fracking bad this is the internet if guys can post videos of just about everything I can share my opinions which I believe tend to be of somewhat more intelligence and importance than most of the youtube videos people seem to watch.
This blog will probably bounce around talking about all the things that I care about in life. This will range wildly from reviews and discussions of books I like (I read a ton both non fiction and fiction), tv shows I watch (discovery channel is my friend), theology or other subjects I am thinking about, and just about anything else since I tend to be attracted to random and useless topics for no reason other than that they fascinate me. I tend to be a pretty random person so please keep all hands and feet inside the car as you read.
I should probably explain the rather random title I gave this blog since I don't expect many of you read or know much about the ancient greco-roman world. The word paraokoi means foreigner or wayfarer more appropriately. In Ancient Rome and Greece it was a word used to refer to someone who was living away from their home in a foreign city and place. It meant you might live somewhere, have a home somewhere, even pay taxes somewhere, but you weren't from there and were still an outsider in many ways. Interesting it's also a word applied in the New Testament to Christians. I mentioned the whole Christian thing right? In case I didn't yes I'm Christian, a pastor in training in fact in the Mennonite Brethren Church in Canada. In any case to Christians they viewed the entire world as not being their home. They might live there but they didn't belong. It's a sentiment I think nerds (yes I am also a huge nerd to the point that my undergrad is in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry) understand all too well. In High School and beyond we live in a world, move through it but in many ways are removed from it by the things we enjoy, talk about, and spend time on. So that wayfarer tag applies to me on so many levels and it's the kind of people I like the kind of people I expect to read this blog. So welcome pass on through and read the random ramblings of a fellow journeyer maybe I can point you to some sites you should see (and some you should avoid) and have a good time along the way.
